Program Description / Services
Over the past five years the Marin Tobacco Related Disease Control Program (TRDCP), at the request of Coalition members, policy leaders and community members, have been working closely with city and county staff and local officials to develop and adopt strong Multi-Unit Housing (MUH) policies in order to protect the public health. The model policy has served as a basis for policies adopted in 9 of our 11 jurisdictions that will now serve as a model and benchmark for other jurisdictions in Marin. Of the 9 communities with Smoke-Free MUH polices 4 ban smoking in all units that share a wall or ceiling. TRDCP is the 1st responder to all violation complaints and are highly successful in compliance. Information is available through the Coalition website (www.smokefreemarin.com) to assist property owners and managers of apartments and condos with model leases, addendums, notices and sample letters. In addition to the compliance and enforcement assistance the program provides cessation for all residents of MUH.
